Viridian Sky is done!

August 18, 2010

Victory has been achieved and it only took me a year and a half. I finally finished Viridian Sky and even did some basic editing.

I’m just waiting on my Weditor (Wife & Editor) to go through it and then I can send it out to everyone who asked to read it.

Thank you for your patience.

Viridian Sky Update

May 6, 2009

I’ve been working hard on cleaning up the storyline for Viridian Sky, my NaNoWriMo novel. Mostly I’ve placed structure and decided on an ending. I still have a good twenty thousand words left to write but I’m getting there slowly. For those of you who have been waiting a long time to read it I’ve included the first chapter after the cut.

Enjoy

What a year!

December 19, 2008

It has been one hell of a full year; a real rollercoaster ride with all the heart stopping twists and turns.

Let’s star with Viridian Sky, after November 24th I stalled completely on the story, since I’ve written maybe 2000 words. It’s not a terrible thing it’s just a by product or absolutely no planning ahead on my part. I have a good idea what’s going to happen from now on I just need a good ending to work towards. I don’t have any illusions, this book is ok and should be a little better after I fix certain things but it’s not great. Writing a great novel wasn’t the point of it anyways, writing a novel was my point and I’ve proven that I can do it. Well almost. I look forward to finishing it and cleaning it up. Hopefully I can do it before February for everyone who wants to beta read.

This morning I was walking to work thinking about the holidays. It’s going to be hard this Christmas. It was my mom’s favorite holiday and it’s going to be hard without her. As I was walking this morning the song, “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” came on my MP3 player and I couldn’t help crying. It’s still hard for part of my mind to realize she’s gone.

I miss her.

Many happy things happened this year as well. I proposed to my girlfriend and she said yes. We planned a good portion of the wedding and I’m very excited.

I spent the year job hopping. I’ve had 5 jobs this year and find myself unemployed. Although I do have several options open right now. Worst case I’m unemployed for a week and get to work on the novel.

On my livejournal I posted my annual Resolutions last year and I though it would be nice to look them over and see how I’ve done:

http://edesmarais.livejournal.com/41476.html
– Exercise more, join a gym. (Maybe if I pay for it I’ll go more often?)
– Write more.
– Draw more.
– Take more pictures.
– Start a D&D group.
– Start a Webcomic.
– Be more positive.
– Take an acting class this summer.
– Take at least one university class in spring.
– Pay off most of my debts.
– Keep moving Forward.
– Propose to Jen

Well I can split this into two groups, those I’ve completed and those I haven’t.

Completed: Write more, Draw more, Take more pictures, Start a D&D group, Be more positive, Keep moving Forward, Propose to Jen.

Not: – Exercise more, join a gym, Start a Webcomic, Take an acting class this summer, Take at least one university class in spring, Pay off most of my debts.

I did pay off some debts but not most and I will be taking a class in Winter… I hope.

Overal 7/12 humm 58%

Well that’s not really good but I’m still proud of the things I have done.

It’s been a tough year and I look forward to the next. I’ll post my new years resolutions some time soon.

NaNoWriMo/Viridian Sky Update Four

November 26, 2008

The novel is going really well, I’ll officially hit 50 000 later today technically winning NaNoWriMo. I’m surprised how easy it was for me to force myself to write everyday and I’m also impressed at how difficult it was to write. I hope I can keep the same pace or close in the coming month.

The book is split into three parts, the first part being introduction, the second being the race, and the third being still unknown.

I’m coming up to the end of the second part. It has been filled with action and I’m starting to get better at describing fight scenes, I think. The characters have been growing together and the angst-y romance is coming together. The big twists will be coming up at the end of part two so please keep voting.

I have a large battle with one of the main baddies and after that I’m completely stumped. I’ve never reached an ending for a book before and this one doesn’t seem to have a clear cut ending. As with other times I was stuck here’s a poll.

I’ve decided on Viridian Sky as the title but that can always change. In future posts I’ll refer to the book by its title instead of NaNoWriMo.

Hope the next 30 000 or 40 000 words go as easily as the first 50 000.

Thank you!

NaNoWriMo Update I

November 5, 2008

As 2pm Wednesday the 5th of November, 2008. I have 12 241 words. I’ve been writing a lot more then I thought I’d be able too. I seem to be averaging 2000 to 2500 words a day. I hope I can keep it up.

I’m working with “Viridian Skies” as a title. What do you think?

There are Five main Characters so far, and two villains of sorts. It seems I’ve missed the boat completely with the Absurd goofiness that I wanted to put into the novel. It’s closer to gritty and dramatic.

My chapters have been short around 2000 words. I think this still works so far. They might need to be extended or just grown over the rest of the book. I’m not sure yet. I’m really letting this flow naturally. I’m trying not to over think it. I have Ideas of how it’ll end but I’m not sure. I’d like to kill a character but I’m really not sure about that.

The world is developing well; everyone has a power of sorts, either drawing from psionic forces or arcane. Out of the five main characters only one is psionic and the other four are arcane. We have:

Cassandra Davanne: An ex con who’s trying to get herself out of trouble. She’s a hell of a fighter. She’s an fire Elemental. Meaning she can create and control limited magical fire around her body.

Arthur Jackson: He’s an AWOL Knight (Cross between cop and soldier.) who’s trying to discover the reason for his wife’s death. He’s a Jumper (I need a better name for it.) He can teleport short distances and has perfect night vision.

Paige: A cute little girl living on her own. She’s a Psionic and very powerful.

Roland Lavallée: A young retired Knight and very socially awkward. He’s a healer.

Richard Washburn: An old retired Knight who was too honest for the force. He’s Flyer.

As far as the story goes here’s a little taste with the chapter tittles.

Chapter One – In which we meet Cassandra Davanne and wonder why she’s so angry.
Chapter Two – In which we find Arthur Jackson wallowing in the past
Chapter Three – In which we meet Paige and her interesting logic.
Chapter Four – In which we learn about Roland Lavallée and his short career as a knight.
Chapter Five – In which we discover that Love is a beautiful thing and assassination is not.

I’d love to hear comments of suggestions
Thank you!
